Bearish Harami Formation a Sign of Market Downside?

After a strong showing Friday by the bulls and the chance to show us Monday that they are finally here to stay, the bulls instead chose to cower in the corner.    (more…)

Trading Range or a Hindenburg Omen Market Collapse?

The Monday morning vigor continued today but, after only a few minutes, it quickly disappeared and we trended lower into the close.  (more…)

Will the Fed Hint Towards Another Stimulus?

Monday was yet another reminder of last year’s low volume rallies.  We ended today with the lowest volume of the year.  It seems volume has continued to decrease over the past few weeks and some of it may be very concerned bears and bulls alike waiting on the outcome of Tuesday’s Fed meeting. How Will Friday’s Monthly Job Report Influence the Market?

Higher-than-expected weekly unemployment claims was the main headline for Thursday, which ended as the lowest volume day of the year.  We had a gap-down this morning that slightly intensified.  Soon thereafter, the bulls pulled out a nice bounce that slowly worked its way higher into the close. A Boring Day in the Market is still a Win for the Bulls

We started the day off with a small gap-down and market breadth of about 3 to 1 negative.  The bears had an opportunity to gain some ground as the small-caps underperformed once again.  Instead, we saw the bulls fight back on low volume.  While it was unimpressive for the bulls, it was still a win as we continue to test June’s highs and continue to stay above the 200-day moving average in the S&P 500. Have We Reached a Trading Top?

We had another green day in the markets today.  Technically, the S&P 500 closed slightly red, but the last minute surge put the the Dow Jones and Nasdaq in the green.  After dropping at the open, we worked our way higher towards lunchtime.  Near the middle of the day, we started to downtrend into the final hour.  The final hour is typically met with high frequency traders taking over and creating volatile action.  Today was surely no different. Strong Start to the Earnings Season

I wish I could start this off by saying how great today’s action was however I found it to be one of the most boring days of the year.  Granted, we saw a nice run-up in Orient Paper (ONP), to which I booked some profits, but the volume was light and the action mostly sideways.  As I’ve stated often, it is very hard to capitalize on low volume days with sideways action.  It is much better to have a high emotion day where the market goes up or down on good volume, as we can make money in either direction. Wednesday’s Much Anticipated Oversold Bounce

Finally!  The bulls have finally managed to do something right.  We received our bounce today and it was a nice run-up into the close.  The bulls managed to force shorts to cover, which helped fuel some of the gains for the day.   Breaking resistance around the 1040 mark in the S&P 500 was an important positive and if we can hold this level tomorrow, we could see us breaking past more resistance which will hopefully turn this bounce into a rally. Stock Market Commentary and Portfolio News: 7-6-2010

Today started very promising.  The bulls started early and we had a strong gap-up to open.  Early volume had the stocks moving north but this was very brief before the selling started and the bulls moved to the sidelines. (more…)

Market Commentary and Trading Strategy: Week of 7-5-2010

Good evening everyone.  Hope you had a safe weekend and are well rested for the shortened week.  We find ourselves opening the week from a long downtrend that continued all of last week.  Every day last week was lower than the previous.  This is not a good sign at all. (more…)
